The Ohio Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Ohio Academy of Audiology (Board) are collaborating on an endeavor to create a new license category and regulations for audiology assistants in Ohio. The purpose of audiology assistants is to improve access to patient care by increasing availability of audiologic services and enabling audiology assistants, after appropriate education, training and demonstrated competency, to perform tasks that are prescribed, directed and supervised by a licensed audiologist.
The Board has posted a proposal for audiology assistants to its website for review and public comment by October 6, 2017. You may review the proposal at the following link:http://www.slpaud.ohio.gov/pdfs/4753$0-13-01-Rule-N-083117.pdf. If the link will not open, you can access the document link at the bottom of our web page directly at:http://www.slpaud.ohio.gov/lawsandrules.stm. You may e-mail any comments directly to the Board’s Executive Director, Gregg Thornton at Gregg.Thornton@slpaud.ohio.gov by October 6, 2017. All comments will be a public record and shared with the Board and the Ohio Academy of Audiology. We will continue to keep you informed on the status of this collaborative effort. For clarification, there is no intent to create a category of license for speech assistants in Ohio.
