Applying the efficiency framework of Judith Gierut and others for the treatment of phonological disorders, particularly in a school setting. This presentation will discuss assessment and intervention strategies for children with severe speech sound disorders, focusing on linguistically based analysis, target selection, and intervention methods. Practical strategies for implementing assessment and subsequent treatment based on the research of Gierut and colleagues will be reviewed. Mrs. Farnham has implemented this phonologic selection process in a public school setting, with significant student success in a relatively short time. Key components of effective therapy for severe speech sound disorders will be the primary focus of the session.
